The study contains an analysis of the decisions of the EU Council establishing sanctions („restrictive measures”) in response to armed conflicts in terms of their implications for scientific research units and scientists. The analysis covers both general (sanctions imposed on third countries) and individual measures (measures adopted against individually designated natural persons, legal entities and other entities). The article also includes the assessment of the standard of statement of reasons of decisions imposing sanctions in the light of the case law of the CJEU, as well as scientific and research activity as a basis for granting a derogation from the sanctions regime.
